| FX Market Outlook |
On Monday, the USD/THB opened at 32.02/04, weaker than the previous closing level of 31.95/97. The U.S. trade deficit narrowed in March because a record plunge in the value of imports did little to lift the dollar on Friday. However, the dollar fell in response to credit market losses as investors moved to reduce exposure to risky assets amidst heightened concerns about the health of the U.S. economy. The dollar declined sharply against the yen after American International Group, the world's largest insuer, showed its largest ever quarterly loss and said it planned to raise $12.5 billion in fresh capital. In addition, the jump in oil prices to an all-time high also pushed the dollar lower. In New York trading, the dollar fell 0.8 percent against the yen to 102.94 yen. Meanwhile, the euro rose 0.5 percent to 1.5480 dollar. At 8.30 a.m., the USD/THB was traded at 32.15/17.
