Bangkok Bank recognizes the importance of nurturing traditional Thai values in order that a strong sense of national identity can thrive alongside a modern economy

Community Support
Bangkok Bank supports all major religions in Thailand including the Christian, Muslim and Buddhism religions.

For more than 38 years Bangkok Bank has organized a Kathin, a merit making offering, on behalf of His Majesty the King, to one of the temples under His Majesty's patronage. As the sponsor of a Kathin, the Bank is committed to not only making the largest contribution to the offering but also to encouraging as many people as possible to participate and take the Kathin to the designated temple.

Kathin is not only an expedition of honor, but it also strengthens social values of sharing and unity.

This year, the Royal Kathin took place at Wat Mahathad Cherngchoom in Sakon Nakhon Province on November 6, 2005.  Customers and staff participated in making contributions  totalling 2.78 Millions Baht. click here for more information

Bangkok Bank's unique community outreach program provides communities with radio programs and video magazines.  For more than 25 years, these programs have been broadcast in rural communities where they are regarded as a vital source of useful information.

These on-air magazines have been educating people on topics ranging from environmental preservation, the dangers of narcotic drugs, the history of Thai classical and contemporary music, practical steps to health, modern agricultural technology, and ideas for small business.

In 2000, one of these radio programs, Bussaban Mala, led to the radio network winning an award from the National Youth Bureau as 'The Organisation that Benefits the Youth'.

Bussaban Mala is aimed at establishing awareness of environmental preservation and the prevention of drug abuse by young people. The program is broadcasted by the Mass Communications Organization of Thailand's AM 1494 KHz station at 5:00-6:00pm weekdays.

The Arts
Bangkok Bank has a long tradition of support for the preservation and development of the arts, particularly painting and traditional Thai performing arts.

Painting Competition
Jitrakam Bualuang is recognized by the art community, as a competition of the highest standing.  Some awardees have made significant advancement in their careers, others have risen to national acclaim, as they have obtained the prestigious status of national artists.

Traditional Performing Arts
In today's business-driven world, organizing traditional performing arts is a difficult financial proposition. Consequently, artists have few channels through which to exhibit their talent, while audiences find it hard to find regular venues to enjoy traditional performing arts.

Literature
The Bank is one of the principal sponsors for the S.E.A. Write Awards for literature in Thailand. The S.E.A. Write Awards are a cooperative endeavor between the Oriental Hotel, the Thai Writers’ Association and the Pen Club of Thailand. The purpose is to give writers the incentive and inspiration to continue producing work for the benefit of Thai society.

Public Service
The Bank provides its nationwide branch network and personnel to support every major election - the general election, the senate election, and the election of Bangkok's governor.

The Bank also donated money and gathered clothing and other supplies to help the flood victims during October and November 2002.

In 2004, together with the Thai Bankers Association and other private sectors, Bangkok Bank joined hands in organizing events to raise funds for victims in the 3 provinces in the South of Thailand.

On December 27, 2004, the Bank opened two accounts to receive donations from the public in order to help Tsunami victims in the 6 provinces of the Andaman seaside. Customers and staff alike donated together more than 43 Million Baht.  The donation was given to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on June 15, 2005 to the benefit of the Thai Red Cross Society and to Rajaprachanukroh Foundation.
