What is PromptPay?
PromptPay is a new service that enables you to easily receive and transfer funds, using your Citizen ID or mobile phone number instead of a bank account number, via electronic channels – namely internet banking, mobile banking and ATMs.
What are the benefits of PromptPay?

PromptPay is a convenient, alternative way to receive and transfer funds.

  • Citizen ID – You can use your Citizen ID to conveniently receive funds from the government, such as tax rebates, welfare payments to senior citizens and support allowances, which will be transferred to your registered account.
  • Mobile Phone Number – You can use your mobile phone number to receive and transfer funds between individuals. There is no need to remember an account number and you pay lower fees. You don’t need to ask for the bank name or branch because the fees are the same for inter-bank and inter-region transfers. It’s convenient and secure, and there is no need to carry cash.
How is information registered with PromptPay secure?

PromptPay provides a high level of security and is under the supervision of the Bank of Thailand, in line with other funds transfer systems.

  • PromptPay Registration – You will need to provide proof of identity by providing your Citizen ID number, account name and the mobile phone number you’ve already provided to the bank (you will be sent an OTP via SMS for verification). The Citizen ID and mobile phone number are only used for connecting PromptPay with an account, not for any other purpose.
  • Funds Transfer via PromptPay – You can transfer funds using our electronic channels i.e. Bualuang mBanking, Bualuang iBanking and Bualuang ATM. To easily keep track of your account movements you can apply for the SMS Account Alert or mAlert service with Bualuang mBanking.
How do I register for PromptPay?
You can register for PromptPay and connect your savings or current account with either your Citizen ID or the phone number you have registered with the bank, or both, using our many channels along with information and documents required for registration.

Do service users need to register for PromptPay?

If transferring funds using a Citizen ID or mobile phone number:

  • Those transferring do not need to register for PromptPay and can transfer funds via PromptPay using the bank channels convenient for them.
  • Recipients need to first register for PromptPay to connect a bank account with their Citizen ID or mobile phone number.
What are the conditions for PromptPay registration?

The conditions for PromptPay registration are as follows:

  • One account can be registered with both a Citizen ID and mobile phone number.
  • Only one Citizen ID can be registered per account.
  • Up to three mobile phone numbers can be registered per account.
  • Only individual accounts (savings/current accounts) in Thai baht can be used to register for PromptPay.
  • Joint and FCD accounts cannot be registered for PromptPay.
  • If registering for PromptPay with your mobile phone number, you will receive an OTP via SMS for verification.
  • Citizen ID or mobile phone numbers can only be registered with another account, if the previous registration has already been cancelled.
I have several accounts at different banks. Which account should I use to register for PromptPay?
You can register for PromptPay by connecting your Citizen ID and/or mobile phone number with the main bank account you regularly use – whichever is more convenient. Since a PromptPay account is for receiving funds you should be able to track movements i.e. balance/transfers in the account using convenient channels i.e. Bualuang mBanking, Bualuang iBanking. If you wish to change banks or accounts, you can amend or cancel your registration at any time.
If I register for PromptPay, can I still make funds transfers using existing services?
Yes. You can make funds transfers using existing services as normal.

What are the limits on the size of a single transaction, the number of daily transactions, and the total value of daily transactions when making funds transfers via PromptPay?
There is no limit to the number of daily funds transfers via PromptPay. The maximum amount per transaction and the total value of daily transactions are set by each bank.
If I register for PromptPay, do I need to use Bualuang mBanking/Bualuang iBanking as well?

The recipients do not need to use Bualuang mBanking or Bualuang iBanking but they need to register for PromptPay.

The transferors do not need to register for PromptPay but they need to use electronic channels such as Bualuang mBanking or Bualuang iBanking to transfer the funds to the recipient’s account already registered with PromptPay. You can conveniently check the account balance/transfers in your account with Bualuang mBanking or Bualuang iBanking and if you also apply for SMS Account Alert you will receive timely notifications about activity in your account.

What do I need to do if there is a change/cancellation to my mobile phone number registered under PromptPay?
You will need to cancel the mobile phone number previously registered for PromptPay and if you wish to register with your new one, this can be done via our available service channels.

I am a foreigner. Can I register for PromptPay?
Yes. You can use your passport as an identification document and register for PromptPay, connecting only your mobile phone number with your preferred account.
