Whether you’re a foreigner or Thai national, you can open a foreign currency deposit account in any of 14 currencies. This is a convenient way to protect yourself from currency risks, save on transaction fees if you receive income in a foreign currency, and act quickly when exchange rates move in your favor.

A foreign currency account can be opened as a savings, fixed deposit or current account and can be accessed online via Bualuang iBanking to view account balances and transfer funds into your local baht account.

You can also transfer funds to an overseas account or withdraw foreign bank notes from your account. The minimum initial deposit is USD 1,000 or the equivalent in another currency.

Foreigners

FCD Account for Non-residents

 

No restrictions regarding maximum value. Ideal if you want to convert and save your Thai earnings in a foreign currency, or if you would like to hold incoming overseas funds without needing to convert them to baht immediately (e.g. to buy a condominium or for personal expenses).
Thai citizens or residents Special FCD You can hold foreign currency funds in your account equivalent to the value of foreign remittances you receive from abroad. There is no maximum balance.
Special Savings FCD

You can hold up to USD 5 million or the equivalent in another currency in your account and there are no restrictions regarding future payment obligations.

You can hold funds in your account, provided you can show evidence as to the purpose of the funds (e.g. school fees).

With this account you can receive free withdrawals when transferring funds or buy a draft to pay for your child’s education overseas.

Domestic Special FCD You can hold up to USD 5 million or the equivalent in another currency in your account and there are no restrictions regarding future payment obligations. Funds can be sourced locally or from abroad.
Domestic FCD You can hold funds in your account, provided you can show evidence as to the purpose of the funds (e.g. school fees or to repay an offshore loan). Funds can be sourced locally or from abroad.
