Bangkok Bank joins 5 partners to sign an MOU to restore Tham Suea Forest in Phetchaburi Province Embracing the royal initiative of "wet forest" to create a model of sustainable community conservation and development

Bangkok Bank together with 5 partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the "Bualuang Save the Earth: Protect Tham Suea Forest" project at Ban Tham Suea Community Forest, Kaeng Krachan District, Phetchaburi Province to restore and conserve natural resources on an area of 1,331 rais as part of the "Wet Forest" royal initiative. This project aims to improve water management, prevent forest fires, increase biodiversity, and enhance greenhouse gas storage capacity, along with creating economic benefits for communities through earning carbon credits. It also opens space for the new generation to participate in designing the utilization of forest areas through "Colorful Community Forest Design Contest" to create a model for community forest development that is in line with the lifestyle and needs of local people in a sustainable manner.
Bangkok Bank Director and Senior Executive Vice President Kobsak Pootrakool said that Bangkok Bank, in collaboration with the Royal Forest Department, Community Forests Foundation, the Hydro-Informatics Institute (Public Organization), the Community Organizations Development Institute (Public Organization) and Ban Tham Suea Community Forest, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the "Bualuang Save the Earth: Protect Tham Suea Forest" project to jointly conserve, restore and manage natural resources for a period of 15 years (2025-2039). The project embraced the "wet forest" royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great to apply in the ecosystem restoration of Ban Tham Suea Community Forest of 3 plots with a total area of 1,331 rais by combining modern technology with local wisdom, including the installation of a solar water pumping system to store water in 10 tanks with a total capacity of 20,000 liters on the top of the mountain to distribute water to create moisture in the forest, helping create a fire break, and includes the construction of dams to slow down water from local natural materials. It increases moisture and ecosystem vitality and reduces the risk of long-term wildfire problems.
“Ban Tham Suea Community Forest is one of the model areas with strong natural resource management and has been selected as one of the 15 model community forests in the country. Bangkok Bank sees the potential to develop this area into a model community forest for environmental conservation development, along with improving the quality of life of the community and creating economic opportunities. It is estimated that throughout the project period, this forest will be able to store more than 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2eq) and create a mechanism to sell carbon credits back to the community to fund the preservation of natural resources and improve the quality of life of local people in a sustainable manner,” said Mr. Kobsak.
In addition, the Bank has also organized a "Multi-Colored Community Forest" design contest to provide opportunities for students and the general public to participate in presenting the concept of developing community forest areas to achieve balanced environmental, social, and economic benefits. It has attracted the attention of more than 156 candidate teams nationwide. The selected ideas will be extended to the actual development of the area to promote the Ban Tham Suea Community Forest as a source of learning about natural resource conservation and ecotourism. This will lead to the creation of a community forest management model that can be expanded to other areas of the country in the future.
