Service Details
Cross-Border QR Payment is a service for tourists, business people, and anyone who purchases products and services from merchants abroad by scanning QR Code via Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking (Outbound). It is also a service for Thai merchants to receive money instantly via PromptPay QR from foreign tourists (Inbound).

 

The service is now starting in the following countries and in the future we will expand it to other countries throughout the region.

  • Vietnam
  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Singapore
  • Cambodia (only for Inbound service)
  • Laos
  • Hong Kong

You can scan to make payments to merchants in Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong showing the following symbols:

Service Conditions
  • Thais and foreigners can use Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking to scan QR Code to make payments to merchants abroad, 24/7.
  • Able to pay for goods and services via Cross-Border QR Payment for a maximum of 100,000 baht/transaction and a maximum of 500,000 baht/day. (The payment limit for goods and services, including Cross-Border QR Payment and top-up service via Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking, is as specified by the customer and up to 2,000,000 baht/day.)
  • Once you confirm the transaction, the Bank will immediately deduct money from your account in Thai baht using the exchange rate at the time of the transaction of the bank in Thailand that is responsible for making the payments to partner banks abroad to pay merchants.
  • No transaction fee
  • Other terms and conditions are as prescribed by the Bank.

  • What is the Cross-Border QR Payment service?
    Cross-Border QR Payment is a service to pay for goods and services by scanning the QR Code of merchants abroad* via Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking. The Bank will deduct money from your Thai baht deposit account linked to Mobile Banking using the exchange rate at the time of the transaction (Outbound). For Thai merchants, they can receive money instantly via PromptPay QR from foreign tourists (Inbound).

  • Is the Cross-Border QR Payment service different from the Thai QR Code service that we usually use in Thailand?
    No, it is not different. The Cross-Border QR Payment service is a service for paying for goods and services abroad. The Bank will convert the value of goods and services from foreign currencies to Thai baht using the exchange rate at the time of the transaction before deducting money from your account.

 

  • Whom is the Cross-Border QR Payment service suitable for?
    This service is suitable for people who want to pay for goods and services with QR Code at merchants abroad such as tourists, business people who travel internationally or people who purchase products and services from overseas providers.

  • What is the maximum payment amount? and Does the service charge any fees?
    You can pay for goods and services via Cross-Border QR Payment for a maximum of 100,000 baht/transaction and a maximum of 500,000 baht/day with no transaction fee.

    (The payment limit for goods and services, including Cross-Border QR Payment and top-up service via Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking, is as specified by the customer and up to 2,000,000 baht/day.)

    You can use the service at all overseas stores showing the following symbols:


  • Which exchange rate does the Bank use to convert currency
    For the Cross-Border QR Payment service, we use the exchange rate at the time of the transaction of the bank in Thailand that is responsible for making the payments to partner banks abroad to pay merchants.

    *Please check the exchange rate and the amount to be paid before confirming the transaction every time.

  • Is it safe to to pay for goods and services with Cross-Border QR Payment service abroad?
    Using Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking to scan QR Code to pay for goods and services from overseas merchants is safe in accordance with payment standards such as

    • The payer must log into Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking with a 6-digit mobile PIN.
    • The Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking screen will display the name of the payee, value of goods and services in the local currency of the overseas merchant, exchange rate and amount payable in Thai baht (THB) at the time of transaction for the payer to verify before confirming every transaction.
    • The payer can set the daily payment limit.

  • Can foreigners use the Cross-Border QR Payment service?
    Foreigners as well as Thais using Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking, can scan the QR Code of merchants abroad to make payments.
