What is Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC)?
- Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is a service that converts foreign currency into Thai Baht (THB). Merchants or service providers offer this service to allow cardholders to see the transaction amount in Thai Baht immediately.
- However, DCC involves a currency conversion fee, which may result in higher costs compared to paying in the local currency. Therefore, it is recommended to pay in local currency when using your card abroad, at online stores registered overseas or for ATM withdrawals overseas, to help save on fees.
Where will I see the DCC service?
- When you pay via Electronic Data Capture (EDC) machines at overseas merchants
- When you withdraw cash from overseas ATMs
- When you pay at online stores registered overseas
How the DCC service works
When you tap or swipe your card, the merchant may ask or display options on the EDC machine for you to choose the currency:
- Pay in local currency, or
- Pay in Thai Baht (THB)
Example: You make a purchase worth 10,000 JPY in Japan. The EDC terminal displays options to pay in JPY or THB. If you select Thai Baht (THB), additional currency conversion fees may apply.
Note: The option to select between local currency and THB is part of the DCC service, which depends whether the merchants offer it.
Withdrawing cash from overseas ATMs
Some overseas ATMs offer the DCC service. When withdrawing cash, the ATM may display the converted amount in Thai Baht and ask for your confirmation.
Example: You want to withdraw 100 USD → ATM shows: “You will be charged 3,800 THB. Do you accept?”
- If you select Accept → the DCC service is applied (you are charged in Thai Baht with possible extra currency conversion fees)
- If you select Decline / Cancel conversion → the DCC service is not applied (you are charged in USD, which is the local currency)
Payments at online stores registered overseas
Some online stores registered overseas may display prices in Thai Baht or allow you to select the payment currency.
Example: A website shows options: 100 USD or 3,900 THB, If you select Thai Baht (THB), additional currency conversion fees may apply.

- Transfers of baht balance can be made before or after the card has expired.
