Bangkok Bank organizes a ceremony for graduates of the 9th Grade Buddhist Theology exam for 2023 to congratulate 60 monks and novices who passed the exam
Celebrating graduates of the 9th Grade Buddhist Theology exam for the 50th year – Bangkok Bank led by Executive Director Singh Tangtatswas, as the secular president, Executive Directors Mr. Amorn Chandarasomboon, Mr. Chokechai Niljianskul and Mr. Siri Jirapongphan, along with executives and staff, organized a ceremony to congratulate the graduates of the 9th Grade Buddhist Theology exam. It is the 50th consecutive year the ceremony has been held to celebrate the success and pay respect to the monks and novices who studied and persevered to pass the examination at the 9th grade, which is the highest grade in the curriculum of the Pali Department of Dharma in the Thai Sangha. The event was held at the auditorium on the 30th floor of Bangkok Bank head office, Silom Road.
This year 60 monks and novices passed the exam, comprising 50 monks and 10 novices. Phra Phrom Molee (Dhammaratano) , Abbot of Wat Paknam, Councilor of the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand, Maekong Bali Sanam Luang, as the president of the clergy, gave fans, bags, three garments (robe, sarong, extra robe) and blessings to monks who passed the examination. Novices under 20 years old who passed the examination will be ordained as monks under royal patronage at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. His Majesty the King will host the royal merit-making ordination and provide them with eight necessities according to the ancient royal tradition.
Bangkok Bank is the first and only company in the private sector that has held a ceremony to celebrate the graduates of the 9th Grade Buddhist Theology exam every year since 1974, making this the 50th year. Altogether 1,560 monks and 299 novices, or 1,859 in total, have joined the ceremony since 1974. This event, in addition to congratulating the monks and novices who passed the exam, also shows the Bank's intention to sustain Buddhism going forward.
