Bangkok Bank urges internet banking users to type URLs manually after finding fraudsters are tricking customers into entering their information on spoofed websites.
Recent news has highlighted a story about a customer who searched for internet banking using a search engine and clicked on a counterfeit ad that fraudsters had set up to connect to spoofed websites. The website’s URL is similar to the bank's website and captured the customer’s information, which was used to transfer money out of the customer’s account.
Bangkok Bank Senior Vice President, Security Management, Mr. Kitti Kosavisutte said that the Bank is concerned about the safety of all customers. Regarding the latest case, it is recommended that customers be more careful when accessing internet banking and manually type the URL of the Bank's website, avoiding clicking any links attached to media, messages or search engines that may be set up by fraudsters to steal important information such as PIN codes and OTPs (one-time password).
In addition, the Bank would like to inform all customers that the Bank does not request personal information or documents from customers such as their username, PIN code or OTP. Customers should therefore be careful and make sure they are dealing with a legitimate website or message before entering such personal information on the website.
