Bangkok Bank signs MOU with Khokkham Subdistrict Administrative Organization of Samut Sakhon Province to support sustainable waste separation
Bangkok Bank Vice President of the Public Relations Department Aphiwat Punnopakorn represented the Bank to sign an MOU with Khokkham Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province and related organizations to further create value from waste through the Don’t Cry I Care project which aims to build sustainable waste separation and return value to communities. At the same time, community recycling banks have been set up to create value from recyclable waste and unwanted materials that are still in good condition to generate income for recycling bank members while also turning some income into different forms of social welfare for people in the community under the concept of “Sell for profit and share”. The initiative aims at creating sustainable waste management in a concrete way.
The MOU is an extension of the ongoing Bualuang Save the Earth: Rak Tha Chin project which focuses on trapping waste in the river before it flows into the Gulf of Thailand through the Tha Chin estuary. This has been done by installing three litter catchment tools namely buoy-strung litter trap (Boom), bamboo cage litter trap, and staking litter trap in the pilot areas of Khlong Luang Sahakon and Khlong Pittayalongkorn, Khok Kham Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province since February 2024. These areas are considered to be the spots where a large amount of waste coming from nearby communities gather, and over the past 4 months, 14,459 kilograms of waste has been trapped, consisting of 6,670 kilograms of plastic waste, 5,755 kilograms of polystyrene foam, 956 kilograms of glass bottles, 452 kilograms of paper, 427 kilograms of metal and 199 kilograms of other types of waste.
