Waste separation model – Bangkok Bank led by Vice President, Premises Department Mrs. Pornpen Pimviriyakul and Vice President, Public Relations Department Mr. Suwit Indrachalerm welcomed Deputy Governor of Bangkok Mr. Chakkaphan Phewngam, Director of Bang Rak District Ms. Phonphan Wathanasin and staff who visited Bangkok Bank to observe the waste management practices at the Silom head office. Bangkok Bank Silom head office serves as a model establishment for waste separation in the Silom business district. The Bank has implemented a serious waste management system that has continuously reduced the amount of waste sent to landfills. The initiatives include installing waste sorting bins on every floor of the building, installing a food waste disposer at the canteen which turns food scraps into soil conditioner which is used for plants within the building and distributed to staff for home use – reducing food waste by over 600 kilograms per month. In addition, the Bank has raised awareness of executives and staff and encouraged them to separate waste before disposal, reduce plastic use, and maximize resource efficiency. With the collective efforts, the Bank successfully reduced general waste by 16,681 kilograms in the first four months of 2025 (January-April 2025) compared to the same period in 2024. The Deputy Governor of Bangkok praised the Bank’s waste management model and the strong cooperation within the organization, noting that the initiative aligns with Bangkok’s zero waste policy which promotes waste reduction and separation at the source. He also offered suggestions for expanding collaboration between the Bank, Bang Rak District Office, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to sustainably solve the waste problem.
Bangkok Bank as a ‘trusted partner and reliable close friend’ has been committed to creating value for a sustainable future for Thai society for over 80 years. The Bank continues to implement environmental initiatives internally and externally under the Bualuang Save the Earth: 3R+ (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Plus) program which fosters a group of champions to drive environmental activities, promote efficient resource consumption while encouraging participation from executives and staff across the Bank. A key goal of this program is to achieve ‘zero waste to landfill’, starting with a pilot project at Rama 3 building (Zero Waste to Landfill @ BBL Rama 3) by 2025. At the same time, comprehensive and efficient waste management practices are being adopted at the Silom head office and branches nationwide to achieve the shared goal of zero waste to landfill.
