Bangkok Bank reaffirms its commitment on World Oceans Day 2025, driving forward the Bualuang Save the Earth: Rak Tha Chin initiative to help tackle the marine waste crisis.
Moving Forward to tackle the marine waste crisis - Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited led by Vice Presidents in the Public Relations Department Mr. Aphiwat Punnopakorn and Mr. Suwit Indrachalerm, along with executives and staff, participated in the “World Oceans Day 2025” event under the theme “Wonder Sustaining What Sustains Us”, emphasizing the importance of caring for the oceans that nurture us. This initiative reinforces the Bank’s role as a “trusted partner and reliable close friend” aiming to instill awareness and foster a sense of responsibility across all sectors of society, especially among the younger generation to recognize the importance of marine resources. The goal is to encourage responsible use of these resources and promote active participation in the conservation, restoration, and protection of the oceans to ensure their long-term sustainability. The event was officially opened by Mr. Banphot Chantrawong, the Governor of Samut Sakhon Province and hosted by Mr. Suchart Ratanruangsee, Director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Office Region 8 who delivered the opening speech. The event took place at Wat Srisuttharam (Wat Kamphra), Bang Ya Phraek Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Sakhon District, Samut Sakhon Province.
Bangkok Bank executives participated in a panel discussion on the topic “Marine Waste Crisis: Roles and Responsibilities of Agencies, Public Participation in Marine Waste Management, and Strategic Plans for Tackling Marine Waste Crisis in Samut Sakhon Province.” The discussion highlighted the “Bualuang Save the Earth: Rak Tha Chin” project, which the Bank has been implementing since February 2024, successfully intercepting over 32,033.49 kilograms of waste before it could flow from the Tha Chin River into the Gulf of Thailand. This effort has also helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 112 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. The initiative is being expanded to include the establishment of a waste bank and continuous public education on waste management in local communities.
Additionally, the Bank organized an exhibition booth at the event to raise awareness and promote waste separation practices. Participants also joined in waste collection activities and released aquatic animals, contributing toward restoring a sustainable marine ecosystem.
