In the second quarter of 2026, the Thai economy remained broadly unchanged from the previous quarter, supported by strong export growth, particularly in technology sectors that benefited from the global technology investment cycle and investments related to artificial intelligence (AI). This reflected Thailand's increasing integration into global technology supply chains. Nevertheless, the global economy continues to face uncertainties stemming from trade tariff measures and geopolitical tensions, especially in the Middle East, that could affect the economic growth outlook going forward. Tourism showed signs of recovery toward the end of the quarter, but overall tourism activity remained below expectations. In addition, fiscal space was constrained by the elevated level of public debt, limiting the government’s ability to implement additional economic stimulus measures. Although the “Thais Help Thais Plus” program is expected to support household spending and alleviate cost-of-living pressures during the economic recovery, businesses and households face persistent domestic structural constraints, which continue to weigh on Thailand’s growth prospects.
