Bualuang Painting

Initiated in 1974 by the Bangkok Bank Foundation, the ‘Bualuang Painting’ competition has flourished for three decades, providing strength in Thai arts and culture through encouraging valuable art by Thai artists.

 

The renowned Bualuang Painting competition is the most prestigious in the country. Many previous winners have since gone on to become great artists, some honored as National Artists.

 

Painting Categories

The Bualuang Painting Competition includes three categories:

 

1. Thai traditional

Paintings with a form, creative processes, techniques and content consistent with traditional Thai arts

 

2. Thai semi-traditional
Paintings with a form, creative processes, techniques and content which adapts the essence of Thai arts, but which uniquely suit current trends

 

3. Thai contemporary

A free and modern expression by Thai artists

Bualuang Painting Competition

The Bualuang Foundation will host the ‘45th Bualuang Painting Competition’ for 2024 – and it is now open for entries.
Criteria
  • A maximum of three entries can be submitted, and they must have never been exhibited in any other previous competition.
  • Entries must be two-dimensional and no larger than 150 x 200 cm in size. They must be pre-equipped with accessories so they can be hung on display at the exhibition.
  • Entrants must complete their personal details and address, including the details of entries in the ‘Submission of Entries Form’ and attach it on the back of the entry.
  • The selected entries must be featured at the exhibition as designated by the Bualuang Foundation. Entrants can ask for the return of non-exhibited entries from June 4, 2024 - 30 June, 2024 on the 29th Floor, Bangkok Bank, Head Office, Silom Road by calling to make an appointment on (66) 0 2230 2560.
Entries, judging and award ceremony

Entries will be accepted from May 25, 2024 - May 26, 2024 from 09:00 a.m. - 04:00 p.m. at Bangkok Bank’s Head Office on Silom Road (29th floor). For further information, please call (66) 0 2230 2560.

Entries will be judged on June 8, 2024 and winners will be announced on the Bangkok Bank website www.bangkokbank.com and the Queen's Gallery website www.queengallery.org.

Awards

First, second and third prizes will be awarded under each of the three categories (total of nine prizes):

First prize (each category)

Bualuang gold medal, 200,000 baht cash and the opportunity to attend an ‘Art and Culture Field Trip’ abroad

 

Second prize (each category)

Bualuang silver medal and 150,000 baht cash

 

Third prize (each category)

Bualuang bronze medal and 100,000 baht cash

 

Remarks:

  • The Committee's judgment is deemed final.
  • The Committee reserves the right to add or withhold any award depending on the value of the entries.
  • All rights to the award winning entries shall be vested upon the Bualuang Foundation, which will be entitled to use or display the entries for public relations purposes with no further obligation to pay any compensation.
  • Entrants can ask for the return of non-exhibited entries from June 4, 2024 - June 30, 2024 on the 29th Floor, Bangkok Bank, Head Office, Silom Road by calling to make an appointment on (66) 0 2230 2560. If entrants don’t show up on aforementioned days, the Foundation reserves the right to retain ownership of those entries. The return of exhibited entries will be informed later at the end of an exhibition tour.

Bualuang Painting Competition: Winners Announced!

After receiving 155 entries from 112 artists across three categories, the judging Committee is pleased to announce the winners of the '44th Bualuang Painting Competition' for 2023. The Bualuang Foundation offers its congratulations to all artists who entered, especially those who won prizes. The award winning and selected entries will be featured at the Queen's Gallery.
