Stop Mule Accounts with One Mobile Number per Person

Update Your Mobile Number via Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking

Join us to enhance your financial security and prevent scammers from using a single mobile number to open multiple mule accounts. Bangkok Bank has implemented a policy to restrict each Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking account to only one mobile phone number. We encourage all users to update their mobile number to match the SIM card they are currently using with the Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking app.

What is the “One Mobile Number per Person” Policy?
The One Mobile Number per Person policy limits the mobile number that can be associated with a Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking account to just one. Once a mobile number is linked to an account, it cannot be used to register another Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking account. The mobile number used on Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking must also match the number the user previously provided to the Bank to ensure uninterrupted access. Users are advised to update their mobile numbers on Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking to match the SIM card they are currently using.

Why “One Mobile Number per Person?”
Scammers often exploit loopholes in mobile number usage to open mule accounts under different names. They use these accounts to illegally receive money and conduct transactions, which is not only damaging to the account holder’s reputation but it also makes it difficult to trace scammers’ source and identity. To combat these illegal practices, Bangkok Bank has implemented a measure to verify user identities that requires the SIM card holder, account holder, and Mobile Banking user to be the same person.

Who May Be Affected by the “One Mobile Number per Person” Policy?

  • Users who have changed to a new mobile number but the old number is still linked to Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking. This may result in the app being inaccessible because the user has not updated their mobile number to match the current number.
  • People who use one mobile number to apply for multiple Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking accounts e.g. those who use the same mobile number to apply for Mobile Banking for family members. The user will not be able to use Mobile Banking because the system will check that one mobile number can only be linked to one Mobile Banking account.
  • People, including foreigners, who have not verified their identities through facial recognition on the Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking app and have not updated their mobile numbers in the app to match the SIM cards they are currently using. They can update their mobile number by contacting any Bangkok Bank branch.
