Frequently Asked Questions

What is PromptPay?
PromptPay is a new service that enables you to easily receive and transfer funds, using your Citizen ID or mobile phone number instead of a bank account number, via electronic channels – namely internet banking, mobile banking and ATMs.
What are the benefits of PromptPay?

PromptPay is a convenient, alternative way to receive and transfer funds.

  • Citizen ID – You can use your Citizen ID to conveniently receive funds from the government, such as tax rebates, welfare payments to senior citizens and support allowances, which will be transferred to your registered account.
  • Mobile Phone Number – You can use your mobile phone number to receive and transfer funds between individuals. There is no need to remember an account number and you pay lower fees. You don’t need to ask for the bank name or branch because the fees are the same for inter-bank and inter-region transfers. It’s convenient and secure, and there is no need to carry cash.
How is information registered with PromptPay secure?

PromptPay provides a high level of security and is under the supervision of the Bank of Thailand, in line with other funds transfer systems.

  • PromptPay Registration – You will need to provide proof of identity by providing your Citizen ID number, account name and the mobile phone number you’ve already provided to the bank (you will be sent an OTP via SMS for verification). The Citizen ID and mobile phone number are only used for connecting PromptPay with an account, not for any other purpose.
