Bangkok Bank joined with its customers to promote sustainable business at the Isan BCG Expo 2022, held in Khon Kaen. The Bank’s booth featured quality products such as cold pressed avocado oil from Boriboon Farm and specialty coffee beans from Santipanich, while showcasing Bualuang Green Loan to support businesses to adopt environmentally-friendly practices.
Bangkok Bank Executive Vice President, Business Banking Than Siripokee said the Bank’s vision is to create value for a sustainable future and support sustainable development of Thailand. For many years the Bank has provided capital and loans for the agricultural sector which continues to be one of the key pillars of the Thai economy and now many entrepreneurs are transforming their business to address their environmental concerns. Accordingly, the Bank works closely with its customers and other agencies to transfer knowledge to other entrepreneurs and support the Bio-Circular-Green economic model.
Most recently Bangkok Bank is the main sponsor of the Isan BCG Expo 2022 organized by Mitr Phol Group under the concept of Collaboration | “Live Together Prosper Together”. The expo is supporting sustainable innovation in Isan and promoting the region as the center for BCG economic development in ASEAN. It is helping public and private innovators to showcase their innovative products and services developed by Thai entrepreneurs.
Bangkok Bank’s booth is under the concept of “trusted partner for ethical businesses”, with the aim to support SME operators, startups and community enterprises making a positive social and economic contribution by solving problems and improving the quality of life, while generating revenue. The Bank also showcased its Bualuang Green Loan to support businesses wishing to invest in renewable energy to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, reuse and recycle materials, replace chemicals with biological substances, or develop biodegradable packaging.
Mr. Than added that: “The Bank has provided booth space for entrepreneurs to present and sell their products at the event, giving them an opportunity to expand their market and it organized the "BCG Economy in Practice" forum. Two entrepreneurs who are the Bank's customers were invited to share their experiences – Mrs. Thitirat Sakdaprecha, Founder and Managing Director of Boriboon Farm, a producer and distributor of cold pressed avocado oil. This meets the needs of health-conscious customers because of a safe cultivation system. Boriboon Farm also brought together a group of farmers to provide careers for local people in line with the sustainability approach. Another speaker was Mr. Jirasak Sutthadol, Founder and Managing Director of Santipanich Group Co., Ltd., a coffee guru who creates specialty coffee by adding value to products, teaching about production techniques and quality improvement, and buying coffee from local farmers to create a better quality of life for the community.”
“Bangkok Bank is committed to creating value for a sustainable future and as a ‘trusted partner’, the Bank is ready to support customers in managing their businesses sustainably. We have customers who have created innovations that add value to agricultural products and adjusted their business model to grow steadily in the long term. The Bank is ready to provide funding support as we believe that a strong business sector will drive new economic development for product quality and sustainability,” said Mr. Than.
Mrs. Thitirat Sakdaprecha, Founder and Managing Director of Boriboon Farm, said that: “The success of Boriboon Farm stems from innovation-driven entrepreneurship for product creation. We worked with researchers on new concepts and ideas and developed cold pressed avocado oil that meets the need of health-conscious customers and adds value to products. At the same time, Boriboon Farm also promotes sustainable communities by joining with a network of like-minded avocado growers in the neighborhood, selecting suitable avocado varieties and educating growers on how to take care of them. Farmers in the network are shown how to develop product quality and to switch from monocultures to producing high-value perennial crops that increase green space. In addition, farmers are encouraged to use environmentally friendly biochemicals, which will help increase the income of farmers in the network.
Mr. Jirasak Sutthadol, Founder and Managing Director of Santipanich Group Co., Ltd., emphasizes the importance of adding value to products such as specialty coffee beans ranging from planting, to roasting, to blending. Different coffee varieties are blended together to create different and complex flavors with their own unique identity. There is also extensive research on post-harvest processes, carbonic maceration and fermentation to increase the quality and taste of the coffee, resulting in high value products. Santipanich also educates consumers to understand Specialty Coffee and teaches farmers about the production process. Most importantly, Santipanich buys coffee at a fair price according to the quality of the coffee and plants more trees to maintain green areas and improve coffee quality, building a value chain that adds value to products at every step, creates a long-term relationship between Santipanich and farmers, while making the business sustainable.
