Bangkok Bank President Chartsiri Sophonpanich said that Bangkok Bank is committed to conducting business for sustainable development on the standpoint of being a trusted partner who is ready to support customers and Thai society in a long run. On the occasion of the Bank’s 80th anniversary on December 1, 2024, the Bank has launched the ‘8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank’ project by working with the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society to invite Thais to be “givers” by donating 8 million cc of blood, which will save more than 60,000 lives, from today until November 30, 2024.
"Bangkok Bank has realized the importance of blood reserves and has been organizing blood donation activities for 27 years since 1996. Although there has been an outbreak of Covid-19 in the past 3 years, causing this activity to be suspended in the Bank's area, the Bank’s executives, employees and customers as well as the general public still went to donate their blood directly at the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society as usual. Therefore, when the situation returns to normal and the occasion of the Bank’s 80th anniversary, the Bank has launched the ‘8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank’ project to invite Thais to make a blood donation while emphasizing its status as a trusted partner who is ready to support Thai society in every situation,” said Mr. Chartsiri.
Over the course of Bangkok Bank’s mobile blood donation project, which has run from 1996-2022, Bangkok Bank executives, employees and customers donated more than 16,613,350 cc of blood, helping to save more than 141,912 lives. Despite the Covid-19 situation during 2019-2022, the Bank carried on its blood donation activities which collected over 1,897,600 cc of blood and helped save more than 14,032 lives.
Director of the National Blood Centre Associate Professor Dootchai Chaiwanichsiri, M.D. said Bangkok Bank is one of the Thai Red Cross Society’s partners who has participated in organizing blood donation activities for 27 years. As Bangkok Bank celebrates its 80th anniversary, the Thai Red Cross Society is pleased and thankful that the Bank organized the ‘8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank’ project to continue the mission of being true givers. Given the current situation, there is a high demand for blood reserves as hospitals resume operations that were put off by Covid-19. Each day, the blood donated gets sent to hospitals immediately for treatment of patients, leaving no bloodstock for emergencies.
“The Thai Red Cross Society wishes to thank Bangkok Bank as a large financial institution who stands by the society for a long time for organizing the ‘8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank’ project. This project will bring great merit as every drop of blood will be used to save the lives of fellow human beings. At present, there is increasing demand for blood as road accidents increase significantly during holidays. More blood reserves will mean more lives can be saved,” said Associate Professor Doctor Dootchai.
