Bangkok Bank established its first office on Ratchawong Road, corner of Song Wat Road, with Mr. Chin Sophonpanich playing an important role in the Bank’s establishment and management and passed on the management to Mr. Chatri Sophonpanich and Mr. Chatsiri Sophonpanich. The Bank has continued its commitment of being a “trusted partner and reliable close friend” for customers until now. As a “leading regional bank”, Bangkok Bank is the first financial institution to receive royal grace to take the Royal Kathin to royal monasteries rotating in all regions in Thailand and foreign countries. The Bank has done so for 58 consecutive years since 1967 during the reign of King Rama IX to help maintain the Buddhist religion in Thailand, and in hope of lightening the King’s burden and preserving Buddhist traditions and culture to benefit novices and monks who will carry on the faith.
Wat Traimit Wittayaram Worawihan or Wat Sam Chin (the original name) was founded by the people, making it a private monastery. Later, the monastery was renovated and became a place to enshrine an important Buddha statue, namely 'Buddha Thotsapholyan', the principal Buddha image in the temple and the ‘Phra Phuttha Maha Suwan Patimakon’ or the ‘Golden Buddha’, an important national sacred object that has brought Buddhists from all over the world to worship. It is currently enshrined in the Phra Maha Mondop which was built to celebrate His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 80th Birthday. The whole Buddha was made from high purity gold with a weight of 5,500 kg in Maravijaya Attitude. The size of the lap is 3.10 meters wide and 3.94 meters high from the base to the top. The ‘Golden Buddha’ is the largest pure gold Buddha statue in the world as recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1992. The Department of Fine Arts later announced the registration of the ‘Phra Phuttha Maha Suwan Patimakon’ as an artifact on February 27, 1956, the registration of ‘Wat Traimit Wittayaram' as an ancient site was announced on March 13, 1956. It also received the royal permission to raise the status of the monastery to the second-class royal monastery, Worawihan type on September 22, 1956.
