Bangkok Bank announces the success of the “8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank” project to thank all “givers” and partner agencies nationwide who donated more than 14,031,600 cc. of blood to the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society, to help 105,237 patients. The Bank is delighted that 76% of donors were new doners, while existing donors continued to donate blood regularly. The Bank will continue to open mobile blood donation points, hoping to generate awareness of sustainable blood reserves, while reinforcing its status as a “trusted partner and reliable close friend” alongside Thai society into its 81st year of operation.
Bangkok Bank President Chartsiri Sophonpanich said that the “8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank” project is organized to pass on assistance to people in society and is part of the celebration activities on the Bank's 80th anniversary on December 1, 2024. The project has collaborated with the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society to invite Thai people to be "givers" by donating blood through various channels. Including the National Blood Center, Thai Red Cross Society, 12 National Blood Centres nationwide, mobile blood donation units and provincial hospitals that are branch hospitals for blood services. As well as Bangkok Bank's mobile donation points at the Bank’s Silom Head Office and Rama III Building, which have been providing continuous services throughout the year, as well as other mobile donation points from various agencies and partner organizations nationwide, totaling 765 service points. As a result, at the end of the project on November 30, 2024, a total of 14,031,600 cc of blood was donated by 35,079 donors. This amount of blood can save up to 105,237 lives.
To thank the “givers,” both executives and employees of Bangkok Bank who have consistently participated in blood donations under the “8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank” project, the Bank has presented appreciation plaques to various departments nationwide to honor their sacrifice. Additionally, special “8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank” eco-friendly bags have been distributed to thank those who have donated blood four times or more in the project.
"The Bank would like to thank all the great “givers” who have helped their fellow humans by donating blood in this project. The Bank is very proud to have been part of driving such a significant social activity. It is also gratifying that throughout this project, we were able to invite 26,708 new donors, accounting for 76% of all donors, and encourage regular donations from existing donors. Moving forward, the Bank will continue to operate mobile blood donation points at the Silom head office and Rama 3 building every three months, as it has done continuously since 1996. We especially aim to invite healthy young people who have never donated blood to participate more, to alleviate blood shortages and raise awareness of the importance of blood reserves. This is one of the key roles as a “trusted partner” ready to stand by the Thai society in all areas," said Mr. Chartsiri.
Director of the National Blood Centre Associate Professor Dootchai Chaiwanichsiri, M.D. said that she would like to thank Bangkok Bank for playing an important role in blood reserves for the National Blood Centre for more than 29 years. Especially the “8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank” project, which has helped promote and generate awareness about blood donations, both from the support of the Bank and partner agencies nationwide, which facilitated setting up mobile blood donation points, resulting in a significant number of new donors. This is in line with the goal of the Thai Red Cross Society to increase the number of new donors and encourage them to donate regularly in order to have a blood reserve of at least 200,000 units (350-450 cc. per unit) per month to adequately support the blood demand of hospitals nationwide.
“The National Blood Centre of the Thai Red Cross Society still needs more blood reserves. Although we have been doing activities to provide knowledge, send messages to inform existing donors and invite new donors, we still do not receive enough blood. Therefore, having Bangkok Bank, a large financial institution with many employees, customers, and partners, as a main partner will be an important driving force in promoting the activity to increase the blood reserves for the Thai Red Cross Society, especially during the end-of-year season when the demand for blood significantly increases due to accidents. Therefore, we would like to invite all members of the public, both existing and new donors, to donate at service points near you to increase the blood reserves because just one unit of blood can save up to three lives,” said Assoc. Prof. Dootchai.
The Bank launched the “8 million cc for 80 years of Bangkok Bank” project in April 2023 with the goal of raising blood donations to the Thai Red Cross Society to reach 8 million cc to create social participation and extend assistance to fellow human beings in a tangible way on the occasion of the Bank’s 80th anniversary. It is also an extension of the mobile blood donation service at the Silom Head Office and Rama III Building, which has been continuously organized since 1996. Throughout the 29-year period (1996-2024), the Bank has donated 32,542,550 cc of blood, which has helped save the lives of more than 261,181 patients.
