More about the Bank of Thailand’s Image Cheque and Archive System (ICAS)

The Bank of Thailand is supporting the development of an imaging scanning and retrieval system to improve the efficiency of cheque processing.

One important aspect of the transition is the need to ensure that cheques are clean and the image can be easily captured by the system. Thus, companies have been asked to cease using corporate stamps and seals which may affect the accuracy and clarity of the cheque verification process, as they sometimes obscure important information on the cheque including the payer’s name, amount and other details.

How this will affect you

To make the most effective use of the new imaging system it is recommended that seals or stamps are not used:

Individuals

Seals and stamps are optional so you can simply cease using them.

Businesses

If using seals or stamps is part of your company policy, you will need to formally change the conditions for making cheque payments or purchasing a new cheque book to "signature only." To make the change, visit the branch where the account was opened and take with you the following documents:

  • Letter to the bank confirming the changing conditions for cheque payment and cheque book purchasing;
  • Affidavit of Company Registration, issued by the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce (date of issue not exceeding one month);
  • Certified copies of personal identification documents of the authorized director(s) of the company who signed the letter referred to in (1) above;
  • Minutes and Resolutions of a Board Meeting authorizing the changed verification condition for cheque payment and cheque book purchase (if available).
