1Critical illnesses (CI) according to the definition of AIA CI Plus Rider refers to sickness, or surgery or medical treatments of critical illnesses, stipulated in AIA CI Plus Rider, which occur for the first time.

2Critical illnesses (CI) which are not covered until the age of 80 include: 1) Juvenile CI Group: Rheumatic Fever with Heart Involvement, Kawasaki Disease with Heart Complication, Type 1 Diabetes, Acquired Hydrocephalus Requiring an External Shunt and 2) Total Permanent Disability that results in the Insured to be incapable of being engaged in any occupation for remuneration or profit for at least 180 consecutive days.

3The rider and basic premiums are tax-deductible up to 100,000 baht, according to the Notification of the Director-General of the Revenue Department on Income Tax (No. 172). Health insurance premiums paid after January 1, 2020 (if any) are also tax-deductible, up to 25,000 baht. When combined with life insurance premiums this must not exceed 100,000 baht in total.

1. If the Insured is first diagnosed* and/or confirmed by a medical practitioner to be suffering from any of the critical illnesses1.  The coverage will be limited to only one illness throughout the rider term; or

2. If death occurs

AIA CI Plus Rider will cease to be in force immediately after any of the above benefits has been paid by the Company.


*Diagnosis refers to the process of physical examination in order to find out the cause of critical illnesses under coverage of the rider. Such diagnosis must meet the following conditions:

  • The condition is diagnosed and confirmed by the specialist medical practitioner registered with the Medical Council of Thailand.
  • The diagnostic tests must be performed appropriately, covering clinical description, results of radiographic testing, results of pathology tests, and results of laboratory testing.
  • In the case that surgery is needed, the surgical procedure must be supported by medical indications and in accordance with the accepted standards of medical practice.
Critical Illnesses Covered by AIA CI Plus Rider
Waiting Period
This rider will not cover any critical illness or disorders confirmed by a medical practitioner occurring within 60 days following the date on which this contract is issued or reinstated or the date the Company approves the increase of the sum assured of this rider, whichever is later. In case the Company approves to increase the sum insured, only the additional sum insured will not be covered.
Some Exclusions of AIA CI Plus Rider
  1. This rider consists of a waiting period of 60 days following the date on which this contract is issued or reinstated.
  2. Critical illness disorders confirmed by a medical practitioner before the date this contract is issued or reinstated.
  3. Suicide, self-inflicted injury or an attempt to take such action.
  4. The insured is HIV positive or has AIDs, either directly or indirectly.
  5. Injuries caused by the Insured while under the influence of alcohol, addictive substances, or narcotic drugs that impair the Insured’s mental faculties.
Requirements
  • Insurable age: 1 month - 70 years
  • Coverage period: Until the age of 80 or until the basic plan has expired
  • Premium payment period: Until the age of 79 or until the basic plan has expired
  • Maximum sum assured per an Insured person: maximum of 25 million baht per one Insured person for the Insured who have an occupation and income, and maximum of 15 million baht per one Insured person for the Insured without an income, namely, juveniles, students, stay-at-home dads, housewives and retirees.

    The maximum sum assured of aggregated coverage for critical illnesses per one Insured person (depending on the consideration criteria of the AIA Company Limited) shall not exceed 50 million baht per one Insured person for the Insured who have an occupation and income, and not exceeding 30 million baht per one Insured person for the Insured without an income.
  • Payment mode: Annually / Semi-annually / Quarterly / Monthly

Note: A rider is a one-year and renewable insurance contract. The Company reserves the right to adjust the premium rate during the policy year due to several factors such as age, occupation and claim payment experience, etc. Riders that cover medical expenses may include other factors such as medical inflation and medical expenses which must be approved by the Insurance Commissioner.
